Can curtains and blinds be automated?
Sheer curtains are light, semi-transparent curtains that soften and filter daylight rather than block it. In our opinion there’s nothing more elegant than the filtered light through a beautiful sheer — it brings warmth, ambience and a sense of space to a room while giving you privacy from the outside during the day.
Because sheers let light through, they’re often layered with blockout curtains or blinds behind them, so you get airy, filtered light by day and full privacy and darkness at night. We make sheers to measure in a wide range of fabrics, colours and textures to suit any interior.
How do I choose the right curtain fabric?
There are four things worth weighing up: your budget, your colour palette, the purpose of the curtain (privacy, light control, warmth or purely decorative), and your personal taste. It’s a lot to balance, which is where we help — through our relationships with world-class fabric wholesalers, we bring you an extensive range of colours, prints and textures, from the latest trends to timeless classics, to suit any décor. How are your curtains made?
Every curtain is custom made to order. After we source your chosen fabric from national and international fabric houses, it’s delivered to one of our workrooms, where our sewing specialists cut, sew and finish it into the perfect curtain for your windows. Because each one is made to measure rather than off the shelf, turnaround time depends on the size and complexity of the job — and we’ll always give you a clear timeframe when you order.
Do curtains help insulate a room?
Yes — windows and doors are one of the biggest sources of heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, and a well-made curtain adds a barrier across them that helps keep the temperature where you want it. How much difference it makes comes down to a few things: the quality of the lining, how well the curtain is sized and positioned in relation to the window or door, and a proper installation. Get those right and curtains offer excellent insulation — keeping rooms warmer in winter and cooler in summer, and easing the load on your heating and cooling. It’s something we factor in when we recommend linings and fit your curtains, so you get the full benefit.
Do curtain tracks and poles matter?
More than most people realise. The quality of the tracking and poles directly affects how smoothly your curtains run and how long they last — the difference between good and average hardware shows up every time you draw the curtain. That’s why we’re very specific about the brands and types we use: we pride ourselves on aesthetics, durability and quality, so we only fit hardware we trust. We carry an enormous range of beautiful tracks and poles — including Silent Gliss, Busche, Forest and Vanda — in finishes and styles to match any interior, from discreet ceiling tracks to statement decorative poles. For effortless, whisper-quiet operation, we also offer motorised curtain tracks by Somfy Glydea, so your curtains can open and close at the touch of a button or on a schedule.
Adding a translucent or block out lining to your curtain fabric will provide serious insulation and block out light which is perfect for bedrooms and in areas where temperature and light need to be controlled.
