Our story — from fine art to fine furnishings

Chadwick Designs began with an eye for how a space should feel. Founder Tim Chadwick was born and raised in Sydney, where he trained in graphic design before studying Fine Arts at COFA, UNSW, graduating with Distinction. Looking for his next step, he began helping a friend at one of Sydney’s finest window-furnishing companies, and within his first year was working in some of the most beautiful homes in the eastern suburbs, seeing first-hand how the best in the business did their work. It was a rare education in craftsmanship and style, and it stuck.

Tim went on to start his own installation business, subcontracting across Sydney for four years and learning from the best in the trade. Along the way he formed a clear picture of the products and techniques he most admired a”bucket list” of the finest the industry had to offer that would become the foundation of Chadwick Designs.

Tim moved to Canberra, a city he’d always admired for its progressive spirit and warm, country feel. Chadwick Designs started in a small garage in Narrabundah before moving to its Lyell Street showroom in 2015.

More than ten years on, Tim is known across the ACT for his craftsmanship and eye for detail  and just as much for the lateral thinking and problem-solving that come with them. Every home is different, and the tricky windows, awkward spaces and one-off requests are the ones he enjoys most. Today, Tim and the team bring that same care and ingenuity  and a hand-picked range of the world’s best products to homes right across Canberra.

After more than ten years working with homeowners, designers and architects, one thing became clear: it’s genuinely hard for a customer to tell a truly good product from a poor one and a poor choice costs more in the long run. So we built the business around a simple idea: curate only the best. We’ve hand-picked a range of products that perform beautifully across every price point, so whether your budget is modest or open-ended, you’re getting real quality and real value not a compromise.

New ideas, new trends and ever-improving fabrics and suppliers mean we’re constantly finding better options for our clients. We keep our range tight so every product we offer is one we’d confidently put in our own home.

But great products alone aren’t enough. The consultation, the product choice, the measuring and the installation all play an equal part in a perfect result, and it’s taken years of practice to call ourselves specialists (and we’re always learning). We solve problems with design-led thinking: one-off modified pieces, imported and Australian fabrics, exquisite curtain making and unmatched installation, for results that look beautiful and perform exceptionally well.

Working with designers and architects

Alongside our work with homeowners, we partner with interior designers and architects — offering the full service of consultation, advice, measuring, supply and installation. We can work through the designer or directly with their client, always within the designer’s vision, budget and timeframe.

Come and see us in Canberra. Our Fyshwick studio is the best way to experience what we do — with working displays of curtain tracks and hardware, an extensive range of blind samples, and hundreds of fabric swatches you can touch, hold up to the light and take home. Seeing the real thing makes all the difference.

The studio is open Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm. For an expert product consultation, we recommend booking an appointment so we can give you our full attention.
